This brief analyzes President Trump’s current trade policy. If the recently released US Trade Policy Agenda is any indication, the Trump administration is committed to replacing large trade agreements with bilateral ones. Given the ‘high uncertainty’ this possibility is raising, the text’s author zeros in on the potential economic and political consequences of the new approach, which could lead to a global shift towards China as the top trade leader.
