This paper looks at the problem of domestic violence in Bosnia and Herzegovina and how the country’s judiciary might deal with the predicament more effectively. More specifically, the text 1) provides a working definition of domestic violence and examines its causes and associated risk factors; 2) stresses the importance of “context comprehension” in judicial proceedings; 3) analyzes behavioral patterns typically observed in the victims or perpetrators of this type of violence; and 4) provides a set of instructions and guidelines that are designed to safeguard both victims and judges who work on domestic violence cases.
