This paper looks at the female-majority parliament in Rwanda in order to analyze the growing role women are playing in African politics. Although gender inequality is still a major problem at the societal level, female politicians are now performing a dual function on the continent – i.e., they’re proving that women can be leaders and they’re opening a broader dialogue on gender issues within society.
