This publication contends that the US has to change its way of war as its current approach rests on an outdated foundation of strategic and operational assumptions that were the product of the period of unchallenged US military dominance following the Cold War. In response, the text's author 1) looks at the existing paradigm US military strategists and planners use for war; 2) addresses why it no longer works in an era of great-power competition, and 3) provides a basis for developing a new way of war for today´s geopolitical landscape.
