Since the end of the Cold War, the Swiss national security policy domain has expanded significantly and no longer just focuses on the military and civil defense. This reorientation has been accompanied by new institutional arrangements concerning functions as well as interaction between different levels of government and foreign partners. However, this publication contends that these profound changes have not been subjected to refined analysis, despite their importance to security scholars and policymakers alike. To address this gap, the text’s authors draw on a nationwide data collection effort to provide a practice-orientated analysis of Switzerland’s contemporary national security field.
