2016 - 2019

Funded by: European Union’s Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Programme, Grant Agreement No. 700688

TAKEDOWN (hereinafter also TD) deals with organised crime and terrorism. It investigates the reasons and processes of engagement in organised criminal activities (OC) and terrorist networks (TN), and the existing nexus between the two phenomena. The project aims at three correlated goals:

  • elaborate a knowledge-based, dynamic, multi-perspective (i.e. social, psychological, cultural, economic, juridical and technological) and multi-layered (i.e. sectors of OC and TN, relevant methods and techniques, type of response approaches, levels and practices) model that explains the inherent dynamics of OC and TN;
  • provide project researchers with deeper insight into OC and TN in order to develop digital and non-digital solutions to be offered to specific stakeholders (first-line practitioners, LEAs, policy-makers,) for preventing/contrasting the two phenomena;
  • leverage the collaboration between the scientific research community, public agencies, practitioners, and the industry in the field of OC and TN
