This paper provides an analysis of the European Union’s weapons of mass destruction (WMD) strategy. The cornerstone of the EU’s WMD strategy is effective multilateralism, combined with the promotion of a stable international and regional environment, close cooperation with key partners and the determination to act resolutely against proliferators. The EU sees WMD proliferation as a growing threat to international peace and security and has become an important financial donor to an array of organizations that monitor and verify suspected WMD activities.
