In this paper, the author focuses on how the EU can best support the work of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and boost its effectiveness in the fight against the proliferation of nuclear weapons. He argues that only with a broader approach can it be argued that the added value of the EU as a vehicle working for ‘multilateral effectiveness’, in the words of the European Security Strategy, has been properly realized.
