This paper analyzes the level of support the European Union (EU) has given to UNSC Resolution 1540. It assesses the role of the 1540 Committee and explores the extent (or not) of its cooperation with the EU. The paper concludes by noting that although direct EU funding of the 1540 Committee's work has been low, Brussels has played a valuable capacity-building role through bilateral and regional-level anti-WMD proliferation programs.
