This report addresses the potential of a new family of emerging technologies known as directed energy (DE) to achieve operational advantages for the US military. The report examines DE as one particularly promising source of operational advantage for the US military. It also assesses emerging DE technologies that have the potential to transition to real-world military capabilities over the next twenty years.
