In this testimony, the speaker outlines some of the lessons learned for US security policy from the past decade. He addresses the current security and fiscal challenges and how to reconcile them in the years ahead. The speaker argues that the United States has unrivaled strategic advantages: insular geography, friendly neighbors, natural resources, fertile land, deep and enduring alliances, access to a global network of bases, as well as a culture of assimilating immigrants and promoting innovation. He contends that with political will and shared sacrifice the US can achieve their goals in both fiscal and security policy.
