This issue features articles on Russian influence on Georgian politics, the role of traditional local structures in the reconstruction of Afghanistan as well as the changing US military doctrine under President Obama. Furthermore, the implications for security in a new communications society are discussed, along with an assessment of Russia's growing military power projection, and an analysis of the nexus between public diplomacy and military diplomacy. The last two chapters of this feature provide insights into gender mainstreaming in modern law enforcement and the foreign policy of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
