This report addresses the economics of post war reconstruction programs (expeditionary economics). The report argues that expeditionary economics is an underdeveloped field which needs a more systematic approach using high quality data. Using case studies, the authors provide an indicative assessment of the cost-effectiveness of US policies in nation-building and reconstruction efforts. The report provides lessons for the development of future policies and suggests that a renewed approach to expeditionary economics should be central to future defense and foreign policy actions.
