This paper analyzes the role of the private business sector in violent conflicts. The authors discuss how private business can contribute both to the outbreak of violent conflict, as well as to the prolongation of war. The paper seeks to explore ways in which private business can be influenced towards crisis prevention and conflict resolution activities and how private business may benefit from peacebuilding and post-conflict reconstruction efforts.
