This testimony discusses the challenges and opportunities that the US Special Operations Forces (SOF) are facing. The speaker explains that the SOF will have to adapt to a future security environment that will likely be dominated by (1) the continuation and possible intensification of violent Islamic radicalism, (2) the potential rise of the People’s Republic of China as a more aggressive political-military competitor of the United States, and (3) the global proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, in particular nuclear weapons.
