This testimony discusses the 2009 white paper on Afghanistan and Pakistan, in which the Obama administration identified the key aspects of the threat posed by the radical Muslim groups centered in western Pakistan. The speaker argues that since Afghanistan is not the only major challenge to US security, the response to this challenge must not be overwhelmed by strategic myopia but to be placed within a broader context, one that also extends beyond Pakistan.
