This commentary looks at the challenges facing German Chancellor Angela Merkel following her re-election in September 2013. The author argues that, despite the good results, difficult tasks await her. These include: finding a coalition partner, dealing with the absence of a liberal party in the Bundestag, maintaining high popularity and solving the euro zone crisis. He also points out that it would be a mistake to underestimate her capacity to overcome these obstacles.
