This paper looks at the EU's potential role in strengthening nuclear security, both inside and outside the Union. The author argues that EU's significant (technical) expertise, budgets and financial instruments, as well as frameworks for internal and external action to reinforce nuclear security would benefit of the EU, its member states, and the wider international community.
