This paper examines the post-Arab Spring political divisions in Tunisia between secularists and Islamists and deliberates whether the country can become more of a pluralistic democracy. The author believes that the accord struck between Islamist and secular political forces at the end of 2013 was a victory of pragmatism over divisive ideology and politics. If it is respected, he argues, it has the potential to mark a seminal moment in Tunisia’s history, one that could reverberate throughout the rest of the Arab world.
