This commentary examines 1) how the UN Security Council has tried to live up to the expectations of others during the post-Cold War era, 2) how it has performed in actual crises, and 3) what criticisms it has triggered as a result of its actions. The text also looks at the responsibilities and privileges Spain will assume during its tenure (2015-2017) as a non-permanent member of the Council.
