This paper analyzes the trends and underlying drivers threatening security in Kenya since October 2011. In general, the author contends that although terrorist groups such as al-Shabaab are a major source of insecurity in Kenya, a greater threat to the nation's security might come from the activities of internal radical and armed groups in the country as well as the nature of Kenyan politics.
