May 2015

This report examines how Benin has dealt with threats to its maritime security, especially piracy. In particular, the report's authors cite two reasons why there were no reported acts of piracy off the country’s coast between the end of 2012 and May 2015 -- 1) the implementation of a new strategy by Benin to improve its coastal security and protect its maritime industries, and 2) the positive impact of different bilateral and multilateral initiatives. To sustain such results, however, Benin will have to make further adjustments to its national strategy, which this report both identifies and specifies.
