This paper examines the efficacy of EU member states’ nuclear security arrangements. More specifically, the authors analyze the member states' 1) domestic nuclear legislation and programs; 2) participation in the international nuclear security regime; 3) transparency regarding nuclear arrangements and incidents; and 4) nuclear threat assessment and response. The authors find that EU member states generally demonstrate an awareness of the importance of nuclear security and dealing with nuclear threats appropriately at the domestic level. However, they also suggest that the states could still improve their nuclear security and provide recommendations on what this could involve.
