This paper analyzes the conflict in Sudan’s South Kordofan and Blue Nile states over the last two years, specifically between the Sudanese Government and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement/Army-North (SPLM/A-N). Among other things, the paper 1) places the conflict within a broader regional and Sudan-South Sudan context; 2) reviews the conflict’s impact on humanitarianism and human rights within the region; and 3) clarifies the political positions of those currently involved in the fighting.
