Each year, the US Department of Defense (DoD) submits its Selected Acquisition Reports (SARs) to the nation's Congress. (The reports detail the funding requirements for America's military acquisition programs.) This study uses the most recent SARs to summarize the status of the US' “big ticket” military acquisition programs. Also included in the study are four non-SAR programs whose costs can be reasonably estimated – 1) The Long Range Strike-Bomber (LRS-B); 2) the Long Range Standoff Missile (LRSO), to include the Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD); the future replacement for the Minuteman III ICBM; and the replacement for the Navy’s Ohio-Class submarine.
