This report explores the role that gender plays in community security programs and looks at what has and hasn’t worked in Bangladesh, Kyrgyzstan, Nepal, South Sudan and Yemen. While exploring this overarching theme, the text’s authors also address three specific questions. 1) How can community security programming be made more gender-sensitive? 2) Does taking a gendered approach improve programming outcomes? And 3) how effective are community security approaches in preventing and reducing gender-based violence?
