This report examines Mozambique’s economic and development progress over the last two decades as well as what the discovery of natural gas could mean for the country’s future. The report's key findings include that 1) Mozambique’s young and rapidly growing population means that it will be increasingly difficult to extend access to basic human services in the coming decades; and 2) forecasted increases in natural gas production should boost the country’s economic growth, but the growth is unlikely to translate into absolute poverty reduction.
