This publication looks at the political and security actors involved in the South Sudan conflict. More specifically, text’s author addresses 1) the evolution of the crisis since December 2013; 2) the main armed groups and political formations in the country; 3) the Intergovernmental Authority on Development’s (IGAD) mediation efforts in the country; 4) the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan (R-ARCSS), a peace agreement South Sudan’s warring parties signed in September 2018, and more. The publication also provides recommendations for the IGAD, the African Union, the UN and others on how to help establish a sustainable solution to the crisis.
