This publication provides an overview of the Trump administration’s financial year (FY) 2018 budget request. The text also looks at what the request could mean for 1) the US’ defense buildup in the near term; 2) military personnel; 3) US military research, development and evaluation; 4) defense procurement; 5) operations and maintenance, and more. The report also disputes President Trump’s assertion that defense budget increase outlined in the report is ‘historic’. For instance, it suggests there have been more than ten increases greater than the one proposed by the Trump administration since FY 1977.
