This report examines 1) what motivated China to initiate its Silk Road Economic Belt initiative and how it fits into Beijing’s evolving security concepts and interests; and 2) the current and future security implications of the initiative for Central and South Asia. The text’s authors also examine the compatibility of the Belt with the EU’s foreign and security interests, and what opportunities the initiative opens up for EU-China cooperation.
