The four articles in this edition of the CTC Sentinel focus on 1) how the so-called Islamic State's ideology was always in tension with the core idea and identity of al-Qa`ida; 2) the evolution of extreme-right terrorism and efforts to counter it in the UK; 3) insights on Iranian support and Shi’a militant cohesion gained from reports on the interrogation of al-Khazali, the head of the Iranian-backed Shi’a militant group Asa’ib Ahl al-Haqq (AAH); and 4) the implications of al-Qaida’s increasing media outreach. The volume also includes an interview with the City of New York Police Department’s (NYPD) Assistant Commissioner for Intelligence Analysis, Rebecca Weiner, and with the NYPD’s Director of Counterterrorism Intelligence Analysis, Meghann Teubner.
