This report looks at what the African Union (AU), the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), and different African states can do to help build sustainable peace in South Sudan. In particular, the text’s authors 1) review the current overall status of the country and how African actors involved themselves in its affairs in the past, and 2) recommend four ways the above stakeholders might go about promoting peace, primarily by improving the conditions for a national dialogue process President Kiir proposed in December 2016.
