This paper examines the causes that have led to the Syrian uprising that started in 2011. The author discusses the evolution of the situation, with a previous analysis of the long-term causes that have presented, yet pushed towards sectarian strife in Syria. She contends that, for over a year, people have for most part refrained from drifting into conflict although tensions have grown as violence escalated and chaos began to show up.
